Although “quartz” is a naturally occurring stone the “quartz” in the countertop industry is an engineered composite. It’s a combination of crushed quartz with a polymer resin to create a hybrid material. The final product is the best of both natural stone and synthetics materials. With that in mind, let’s explore why our customers love quartz.

All about Quartz

Non-Porous. Quartz is not like natural stone where it has to be sealed because of microscopic holes in the stone. The resin used in between all the crushed quartz pieces evenly fills the gaps of the surface. This also adds durability to quartz countertop making it very resistant to stains and pigmentation. This makes the cleaning and care of quartz less of a chore as any mess or spills simply glide off the surface with ease.
Antimicrobial. The non-porous nature of quartz makes it antimicrobial, this is a desirable trait where hygiene is a main goal. Without small gaps or crevices on the surface of the stone for microorganisms to latch onto, it significantly inhibits their ability to grow and form.
Scratch Resistant. Being composed almost entirely of hard quartz mineral, the countertop will be scratch resistant in most cases. But the resin is still soft and susceptible, so we always recommend you are conscious of hard objects placed on the surface.
Under-mount Sinks. We can install under-mount sinks to quartz. This lets you wipe your countertop surfaces directly into the sink without being caught on the lip of a surface-mount sink. You can consider using several types of sinks including cast iron, stainless steel, solid surface and apron front (farm house).
Backsplash Options. Typically, a separate 4” piece of the stone slab will be adhered on top of your countertop surface. Tile and full-height granite backsplashes are also used.
